The Seigniory of Broue
The Geographical Society of Rochefort is taking part in a large scale programme of archaeological investigations currently under way on the protected site of Broue. A study of archive documents shows that the feudal estate and its castle had a permanent military garrison and a court of justice . It was also a thriving commerce centre whose prosperity rested on the production and trade of salt extracted from all the nearby marshes.
